Hilary Tompsett’s appointment as Deputy Chair of the General Social Care Council extended

Hilary Tompsett’s appointment as deputy chair of the General Social Care Council has been extended with effect from 1 September 2012 for a further two months or until the board is dissolved. This follows the completion of her four year term of appointment on 31 August 2012.

The General Social Care Council is an currently an executive non departmental public body responsible for the regulation of social workers and social work students in England. It is due to formally close on 1 October 2012.

The offer of appointment will continue to be for a time commitment of two to three days per month on council duties and remunerated at a rate of £7,882 per annum.

This appointment is made in accordance with the code of practice for ministerial appointments to public bodies, issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. All appointments are made on merit and political activity played no part in the process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Hilary Tompsett has declared no political activity and holds no other ministerial appointment.
